Earthworm Foundation is seeking a motivated Thematic Manager, based in Semarang, Indonesia, with min. 10 years of experience in in agriculture, livelihood, natural resource management and rural development project at sub-national and local level, excellent communication and writing skills, preferably with experience in food and cash crops production and regenerative farming system. The Thematic Manager will have a proven experience in conducting Business Analysis, Feasibility Studies, and developing Business Plans, related to agriculture and livelihood activities for value generation and be interested in a career with a dynamic non-profit that builds relationships with companies, governments and civil society organizations to bring responsible products to market.
The Thematic Manager will be working with various stakeholders (e.g. local government, companies, or NGOs) on agriculture/livelihood related activities. He/she should be a self-starter and innovator who believes that farmers are entrepreneurs with vision and leadership.
The Thematic Manager will work in a team, in close collaboration with the Earthworm Foundation Landscape Team Leader and also participate in the implementation of conducting Business Analysis, Feasibility Studies, and developing Business Plans, related to agriculture and livelihood activities for value generation. This information will be analyzed and presented as a written report covering local conditions and market access, but also used to develop future capacity building activities and provide individual coaching.

Responsibilities and Scope
- Support Landscape Lead in developing livelihood program strategies and workplan according to the landscape context;
- With each landscape manager, co design and develop business analysis and business plan for various agricultural commodities for e.g. food crops, horticulture and livestock;
- Provide technical supervision and backstopping support for each landscape team to ensure implementation of livelihood activities is delivered according to the workplan and targets;
- Develop approach, methodology and toolkit required to implement and monitor results from livelihood activities based on agribusiness;
- Explore and determine the most efficient, effective and regenerative techniques, equipment and technology to implement livelihood activities based on agribusiness;
- Conduct engagement and communication with relevant stakeholders to support livelihood programme, such as Banks/financial institutions, input suppliers, companies, training institutions, etc. ;
- Contribute in technical discussions, within country and globally, on livelihood aspects that focus on methodology, toolkit, approach, impact measurement and interrelation with other social workstream;
- Conduct regular monitoring and develop technical/thematic report on the progress of livelihood activities across landscape.
Requirements – Candidate Profile Minimum Qualifications
- Min. 10 years of practical working experience in agriculture, livelihood, natural resource management and rural development project at sub-national and local level. Preferably experience in food and cash crops production and regenerative farming system;
- Strong knowledge and understanding governance and institutional contexts, nationally, sub nationally and locally;
- Proven experience in conducting Business Analysis, Feasibility Studies, and developing Business Plans, related to agriculture and livelihood activities for value generation;
- Experience in working with various stakeholders (e.g. local government, companies, or NGOs) on agriculture/livelihood related activities;
- Committed to Earthworm’s values.
Language skills:
- Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia;
- Proficiency in English.
Working conditions / Physical effort:
- Based in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia;
- Possibility to travel;
- Work with smallholders and mill in remote and rural regions, which may include stays in rustic conditions.

- 1-year contract;
- Full-time position;

- Valid authorisation to work in Indonesia required.
